I’m trying something different starting this week. I wish I had thought to try this weeks ago, but I’m growing and our fellowship may change some to. This may or may not work well… we’ll see. Here are my thoughts:
#1 – I think I talk too much on Sunday mornings, and I really want to get others more involved.
#2 – I realize that I’ve been thinking about a subject for at least a week, sometimes months and I expect you guys to be ready to talk about it as soon as I present it. That’s not fair.
#3 – I know, we’ll get a clearer picture of the heart of God if we are balanced and we get to listen to one another and what each of us are hearing from God.
So, here’s what I’m going to try for this series. I’m going to give you guys my notes a week ahead of time and ask you to read or listen to me read those notes to you. That may sound childish to some of you “me reading you my notes” but if I were in your shoes I’d much prefer to hear you read to me than I would to read your notes. I’m an auditory learner. I can listen to you read and I’ll remember or hear better than if I have to read myself. I listen to lots of audio books.
Anyway… when this is up and running well, I’ll be posting on Mon, Tues, and Wednesday my notes – usually three parts in both audio and pdf for you to print and read or read off the screen. Or you can just listen through your ipod. These audios will primarily be me reading to you my notes. Then by Sunday, we’ll be ready to talk. Everyone who read or listened will have some time to think and process the material, and then we’ll have time to think on it. Our chats may be more productive. This may be a total flop… if so, we’ll return to the old way of doing things. Either way, I think we’ll have fun trying something new.
This week all three parts of Sunday’s notes will post today. It will be three posts, and three audio entries on itunes. I hope you see that this is my way of trying to give you more power, more authority, more ways to participate on Sunday. I’m praying that aplacetotalk never becomes the Josh McDowell show… because I know Josh, and I know he is just a regular Joe… totally fallible.
